Pantoleon, as was his real name, came from Nicomedia in Asia Minor. His father Eustorgios was a pagan and his mother Evoulis a Christian. He was baptized a Christian by the priest and doctor of the city Ermolaos and received the name Panteleimon. Panteleimon was a doctor by profession and he treated his patients without payment, which is why he is classified in the choir of saints, called “Anargyri”. He was martyred by beheading under the Roman emperor Maximian (286-305).
